On Monday, the Bernese High Court found a mother guilty of murdering her eight-year-old daughter. However, the High Court deviated from the lower court in the sentence imposed.
In June 2024, the Bern-Mittelland Regional Court had sentenced the woman to life imprisonment in a circumstantial trial. However, the High Court has now imposed a slightly lighter sentence of 18 years' imprisonment.
"I didn't kill my daughter," the 33-year-old defendant also emphasized during questioning before the High Court last week. However, the High Court did not believe this assertion, nor did the lower court.
The violent death of the eight-year-old girl in Könizbergwald in a suburb of Bern in February 2022 caused great consternation at the time.
The ruling of the High Court is not yet final and can be appealed to the Federal Supreme Court.
