On Monday, the public prosecutor's office asked the High Court to confirm the first-instance verdict. The single mother had gotten her daughter out of the way because the child had stood in the way of a new relationship and her party life.
As in the first instance, the defense lawyer demanded an acquittal. There were considerable doubts about the evidence on which the prosecution was based. After the terrible homicide, the police had needed a quick success in the investigation for the shocked public. Too little consideration had been given to exonerating factors in favor of the accused.
To this day, the woman maintains her innocence and sees herself as a victim of the justice system, as she recently said in a crime podcast in the German weekly newspaper "Die Zeit". The accused appeared in court on Monday. "I did not kill my daughter," she emphasized again. The high court will announce its verdict on March 24.
