Spitalzentrum Biel AG and the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) have founded a company for scheduled patient transportation. This will enable the ambulance service to concentrate on emergency rescue from the summer, as the two companies wrote in a joint press release.

Ambulanz Region Biel AG (ARB) - a subsidiary of Bieler Spitalzentrum - will continue to carry out emergency and rescue transports in the Biel-Seeland region. Secondary transportation of stable patients will be handled by the new company, TCS Ambulance Services Mittelland AG.

According to the press release, two thirds of the new company is owned by TCS, with the hospital center holding one third of the shares. At the same time, the hospital center will enable TCS to purchase one third of the ARB shares.

It is in line with a requirement of the Canton of Berne that the emergency services outsource plannable patient transports that pose little health risk, the statement continued. The reorganization will not result in any changes for the almost 80 employees of the emergency rescue service.
