A number of commentators expressed disappointment on Tuesday that Trump had not mentioned the cryptocurrency in his inauguration speech. Investors now fear that the issue is not an immediate priority for the new US president after all, they said. "However, the tide can turn quickly here too with each new working day of the unpredictable Donald Trump," said one market analyst.

Bitcoin has risen significantly since Trump's election in November, having fluctuated between 50,000 and 70,000 dollars for months beforehand. Trump promised to loosen the regulations for cryptocurrencies. He is also in favor of a national Bitcoin reserve for the USA.

Overall, Bitcoin has been on a clear upward trend for some time. At the beginning of 2024, the Bitcoin price was still around 42,000 dollars.
