The Czech Republic's state coffers are ringing: Budweiser Budvar is able to compensate for the lost Russian business and surprises with its figures.

Last year, the Czech state brewery Budweiser Budvar brewed more than 1.8 million hectolitres of beer - more than ever before in a single year since its foundation in 1895. More than 70 percent of this was exported, as revealed in the company's annual report on Friday. Net profit after tax rose by 46.3% compared to 2022 to the equivalent of almost 11.6 million euros.

Brewery Director Petr Dvorak explained that the company had succeeded in compensating for the loss of the Russian market as a result of the invasion of Ukraine and discovering new opportunities outside of existing markets. The Czech Republic as the owner can also be pleased about this. As the responsible Minister of Agriculture Marek Vyborny stated, the national brewery will contribute the equivalent of around 21.7 million euros to the state coffers this year.

Ceske Budejovice (Budweis) is located almost 90 kilometers northeast of Passau. The beer brand should not be confused with the American Budweiser (Bud) from the international brewing group Anheuser-Busch InBev.
