The eleventh and final year students were on their way back from a stay on the beach on the Caribbean coast to Bello near Medellín when the accident happened. According to media reports, around 40 passengers were traveling on the bus, which crashed in a rural area near Segovia.
The injured were taken to hospitals. According to official information, most of them are between 16 and 18 years old.
"Today is a sad day for Antioquia," said the governor. The bus is said to have left the road for an as yet unexplained reason, according to media reports. The national road safety authority is investigating what led to the accident.
