Around seven weeks after a dramatic rescue operation in western Austria, the Karren cable car has resumed operations. This was confirmed to the German Press Agency (dpa) by the manager of the facility near Dornbirn.

On June 23, a strong gust of wind had overturned the ropes of the gondola lift in the province of Vorarlberg. For several hours, 19 passengers and a dog were trapped 60 to 80 meters above the ground before they were brought to safety by helicopter in a difficult rescue operation.

Cable car was checked and repaired

Since then, the cable car has been out of service. In recent weeks, all safety-relevant components have been checked, repaired or replaced, according to the city of Dornbirn and the cable car company. These included ropes, running gear and cabins, they said.

Precautions have been taken to ensure that such an incident does not happen again, said the operations manager. However, all risks can never be completely ruled out, he added.

The Karren cable car runs from Dornbirn to the Karren, which is around 970 meters high and offers a view of the Rhine Valley, Lake Constance and the Swiss mountains.
