Specifically, the members of the Suissedigital association recorded growth of 1.8% in mobile telephony to a total of around 3.3 million subscriptions, according to a press release issued on Tuesday. The number of broadband connections grew the most with an increase of 2.7% to 1.8 million subscriptions. In the television business, meanwhile, the number of subscribers shrank by 1.8% to around 2.0 million.

In the TV business, it has once again become clear that competition remains fierce, said Suissedigital spokesperson Matthias Lüscher when asked by the news agency AWP. For example, streaming services and new internet TV providers are competing with the digital TV services offered by cable network operators.

Nevertheless, the association members would continue to invest money in networking in Switzerland. Every year, around CHF 1 billion is invested in the expansion of fixed and mobile networks.

Suissedigital is the trade association for Swiss communication networks. According to the information provided, the association comprises around 170 companies organized under both private and public law. According to the information, they supply over three million Swiss households with radio, TV, Internet and telephone.

However, the number of members has fallen steadily in recent years. The reason for this is that member municipalities, for example, are selling their networks to private operators. However, consolidation is progressing much more slowly than had been expected years ago, said Lüscher.
