Following the crash landing of one of its planes in Toronto, Canada, the US airline Delta Airlines wants to offer each of the passengers affected 30,000 dollars. This gesture is "unconditional", a spokesman told the AFP news agency.

It would have "no effect on the rights" of the passengers. The plane coming from Minneapolis in the US state of Minnesota with 80 people on board had landed on its back in Toronto on Monday. During the hard landing, it crashed with full force onto the airport tarmac. The cause of the accident was initially completely unclear.

According to the latest information, 21 people were injured in the accident, but only one of them was still in hospital on Wednesday, according to Delta.

Several airplane accidents have occurred in North America recently. At the end of January, a passenger plane collided with a military helicopter on approach in Washington, killing all 67 occupants of both aircraft. Two days later, a small plane crashed over Philadelphia, killing seven people.
