Following an incident involving several deaths and injuries in Vancouver, Canada, Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed his shock. "I am shocked by the horrific events at the Lapu Lapu festival in Vancouver this evening," he wrote on the X platform. He expressed his deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured, the Filipino-Canadian community and all the people of Vancouver. "We all mourn with you."

Carney wrote that the situation would continue to be closely monitored. He also thanked the first responders for their quick action.

The leader of the Conservatives, Pierre Poilievre, wrote on X: "My thoughts are with the Filipino community and all the victims of this senseless attack." He also thanked the first responders "while we wait for more information." The Canadian general election takes place on Monday.

A man drove his car into a crowd of people at a street festival in Vancouver on Saturday evening (local time), killing and injuring several people, according to police. The driver is in custody. There was initially no further information about the incident or possible background. The so-called Lapu Lapu Festival is a major Filipino festival and takes place every year.
