In order to make Fribourg cheese even better known, the cantonal government recently awarded a Gruyère and a Vacherin cheese. They will now be served at government receptions for a year. Other cantons also support regional products in this way.

However, this often involves wine. In some cantons, the state wines come from their own vineyards, while other cantons award prizes to fine wines from private wineries.

The canton of Fribourg also awards a "state wine" - and a "state cheese". On behalf of the Fribourg State Council, its president, Philippe Demierre, recently presented the two awards, as the canton announced on Wednesday.

They went to Gruyère AOP, which is produced by Markus Sturny at the Lanthen cheese dairy in the municipality of Schmitten, and to Fribourg Vacherin AOP from the production of Alain Jungo at the Struss cheese dairy in the municipality of Saint-Ours.
