The restrictive conditions in pre-trial detention have often been detrimental to those affected, representatives of the two cantons announced on Tuesday at the Meilen ZH training prison. Damage caused by imprisonment could make their reintegration more difficult.
In a press release, Zurich's Director of Justice Jacqueline Fehr was quoted as saying that the pilot project now aims to preserve the resources of those arrested - such as their job, home or family structures.
The aim is to avoid detention damage and the associated costs, according to Bern's Director of Security Philippe Müller. "The pilot project must not have any influence on actual criminal prosecution."
Among other things, a "life area interview" when entering prison and the "Prison Stress Management" program are being tested.
