A driver was fatally injured in a car accident in Rupperswil AG on Sunday night. His two passengers suffered serious injuries.

The 46-year-old Swiss man lost control of his car shortly after 1.30 a.m. for as yet unknown reasons, according to the Aargau cantonal police on Sunday.

The investigation is focusing on excessive speed due to the damage caused. The public prosecutor's office opened an investigation.

The car was traveling on Aatalerstrasse in the direction of Wildegg. On a slight left-hand bend, it left the road on the right and crashed heavily into a metering system just before a traffic circle.

According to the press release, all help came too late for the driver. The injured passengers, aged 19 and 46, were taken to hospital.

The car was a total loss.
