Actress Cate Blanchett will receive a Bambi this year. With the award in the "Actress International" category, the Bambi jury wants to honor the 56-year-old not only for her "artistic excellence", but also for her "humanitarian and ecological commitment", according to the Burda publishing house.

As an actress, Blanchett has "brought the entire range of human emotions to the screen", it continued. She is a "true artist who redefines every role with radical dedication." The Australian is known from numerous films, including the "Lord of the Rings" series and the historical drama "Elizabeth".

Oscar winner with great range

Cate Blanchett won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2005 for her portrayal of Hollywood legend Katharine Hepburn in "Aviator". In 2014, she was awarded the coveted film prize for best leading actress for Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine". One of her most recent roles, the portrayal of conductor Lydia Tár, earned her a Golden Globe in 2023.

In addition to her acting performance, the Bambi jury also highlighted Blanchett's social commitment. The actress has been a UNHCR special ambassador for refugees since 2016. The 56-year-old is also involved in various climate and environmental organizations.

Bambi Gala in Munich

The Bambi is one of the most important media and television awards in Germany. The gala will be streamed live from the Bavaria Film Studios on Prime Video on Thursday (13.11.).

The award will be presented in more than twelve categories this year. Other well-known award winners include singer and actress Cher, model Heidi Klum, filmmaker Michael "Bully" Herbig and comedian Hazel Brugger. The Bambi Awards will be held in Munich for the third time in a row.
