The municipality of Vuadens reported the pollution of the "Le Diron" stream to a gamekeeper at around 5.35 p.m. on Friday afternoon, the Fribourg cantonal police said on Saturday. The report concerned a visible gray liquid in the water in the Maupas area.

The gamekeeper and a specialist from the Office for the Environment discovered on site that water containing cement was contaminating the watercourse. This was affecting the ecosystem. However, no fish mortality has been detected so far, according to the report.

The pollutant dissolved until the stream flowed into the Sionge. The authorities used a neutral, yellow fluorescent dye to determine the source of the contamination. This could be visible in the stream in the coming days. Investigations into the cause are ongoing.
