The wording of the negotiated bilateral agreements between Switzerland and the EU has been agreed. According to the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the chief negotiators put their initials under the negotiated international treaties in Bern on Wednesday.

This step marks the so-called initialling, as announced by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA). Following the substantive conclusion in December 2024, the legal review of the legal texts has now also been completed. Formal signature by the Federal Council and the EU Commission and ratification are still pending.

The treaties are intended to stabilize and update the existing bilateral agreements and create a new link in the areas of electricity, food safety and health. The legal texts number 800 pages in total.

The treaties have not yet been published, but can be viewed by members of parliament. Publication is planned for the start of the consultation process before the summer break.
