Traffic accident Child injured in accident with streetcar in Basel

A child was injured in a traffic accident involving a streetcar in Basel on Wednesday evening. The child was taken to hospital for assessment.

The accident occurred shortly after 7.30 pm at Zürcherstrasse 95 near the pedestrian crossing, as reported by the Basel-Stadt cantonal police in the evening.

For reasons that are still unclear, the child ran across the pedestrian crossing and crashed into the side of the streetcar traveling into the city, injuring the child. The child was taken to the University Children's Hospital of Basel by the Basel-Stadt ambulance service for further assessment.

Zürcherstrasse had to be closed to private and public traffic for around two hours, according to the press release. The police are looking for witnesses.
