Despite the threat of trade conflicts and problems at home, China aims to achieve economic growth of around five percent again this year. This is according to the government's work report.

In view of the economic situation in the world's second-largest economy and the disputes with international trading partners, the target is considered ambitious.

According to observers, China is signaling with this target that it wants to take money in hand to support the economy. Low domestic demand, weak consumer confidence and the real estate crisis that has been simmering for years are slowing down the economic engine. Trade disputes are also putting pressure on exports from the export-oriented economy.

The People's Congress, with around 3,000 delegates, is meeting from today in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Over the coming days, the parliament, which is not freely elected, will hold numerous meetings to discuss further government reports, which will be voted on at the end.
