The lawsuit was filed with a court in Munich, as Clariant announced on Monday. It relates to the violations of competition law in the ethylene purchasing market sanctioned by the European Commission in July 2020. Clariant, Orbia, Celanese and Westlake had colluded in the purchase of ethylene in order to achieve the lowest possible price.
Clariant "firmly" rejects the allegations according to the statement - it will defend itself vigorously in the proceedings. According to the company, economic analyses show that the conduct in question had no impact on the market.
This means that the queue of plaintiffs is getting longer and longer: Shell, BASF, TotalEnergies, Dow, OMV and LyondellBasell have already gone to court in the same case.
