Swiss environmental ambassador Felix Wertli gives a cautiously positive interim assessment of the World Climate Conference in Brazil. The big issues have not yet been resolved, he said on Saturday when asked. But the negotiations had got off to a good start.

After an agreement was reached relatively quickly on the negotiating agenda, the conference participants were now in the middle of negotiations between the groups of countries, some of which lasted for hours.
In the second week, the environment ministers of the federal states are expected to take part in the negotiations at political level. The outcome of the negotiations is currently still open: "It is currently difficult to say whether we will end up with a package that is good," said Wertli on the phone from the city of Belém in the Brazilian Amazon region.
