On the heights of the Colombian capital Bogotá, a disoriented Andean bear wanders around on dry ground - where water once flowed abundantly. A water supplier in Colombia is using a bear video to call for responsible water consumption.

The video by Acueducto, the company responsible for Bogotá's water supply, shows how the black bear stands on its hind paws to get a better view of the arid landscape. "He needs water too! And it needs us to work together to ensure responsible consumption," explains the company in the commercial published on Friday on the online service X.

Bogotá, a metropolis with a population of 8 million, is facing a serious water crisis. Since April, the city has been subject to rationing because the water level in the reservoirs that supply Bogotá's inhabitants is very low.

A lack of rainfall has caused numerous fires around the capital and elsewhere in the country. In the Colombian Amazon region, the amount of water in the river has been reduced by 90 percent over the past three months.
