The companies are alleged to have coordinated prices and bids for tenders from the public sector and private clients in building construction and civil engineering for several years, according to the statement. The Competition Commission is now investigating whether there were in fact any unlawful restrictions of competition.
It is considered a bid-rigging agreement if bidders exchange information on price and award. According to the competition authorities, such agreements drive up costs, make companies less efficient and inhibit innovation. In recent years, the authority has already investigated several similar construction cartels, including in Graubünden, Valais and Ticino.
