A heatwave with temperatures of up to 35 degrees is expected in Ticino from Saturday. The federal government has therefore issued a level 4 heat warning for the central and southern part of the canton.

Even during the night, temperatures are not expected to fall below 20 to 23 degrees, the federal government wrote in its natural hazard bulletin on Friday. The warning is valid from 12 noon on Saturday until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Meteorologists expect the highest danger from Sunday noon to Monday evening.

Level 4 means a high risk of circulatory problems and physical discomfort. In this case, it is recommended to drink plenty of unsweetened fluids (at least 1.5 liters), protect yourself from direct sunlight and avoid physical exertion.

A heatwave is also expected to hit the Lake Geneva region and Valais from Sunday, it added. However, this is only likely to reach level three "considerable". But even in these areas, temperatures could rise to 32 to 35 degrees from Sunday afternoon to Tuesday evening. Thunderstorms on Monday evening could bring a temporary dip.
