This was announced by the market research company GfK and the Nuremberg Institute for Market Decisions (NIM) on Thursday. "The data points to stable Christmas business," explained NIM consumer expert Rolf Bürkl.
Consumers are "in a similar mood to last year", he continued. "On the one hand, this shows a certain stability in consumer sentiment, but on the other hand it also shows that consumers are not expecting a far-reaching recovery in the short term."
Decline in propensity to save
According to the data, the propensity to save fell by 2.1 points to 13.7 points. The propensity to buy rose by 3.3 points to minus 6.0 points. This year, this sub-indicator was only higher in April.
According to GfK and NIM, however, people's income prospects deteriorated by 2.4 points to minus 0.1 points. They also rated the economic outlook worse - the indicator fell by 1.9 points to minus 1.1 points.
The consumer climate is an important indicator of consumer behavior, which in turn is an important pillar of economic development. For the current survey, around 2000 people were questioned from October 30 to November 10. The consumer climate refers to total private consumer spending, i.e. services, travel, rent and healthcare services in addition to retail.
