Compared to the same month last year, the value was 0.1 points higher, according to a press release issued on Friday. The sentiment barometer calculated by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) reached its lowest value of the current year in April at -42.4 points, shortly after Donald Trump triggered a tariff dispute with virtually the entire world on "Liberation Day".

After hitting a low in spring, consumer sentiment had initially brightened noticeably by July (-32.8). It then plummeted again in August to -39.9 points, coinciding with the US President's tariff hammer against Switzerland.

The consumer sentiment index is published monthly on the basis of a survey conducted by Seco. Data has been collected since 1972. In contrast to many common economic indicators, consumer sentiment refers to private households.
