The retailer Coop achieved record sales in 2025 thanks to more customers, among other things. The number one retailer in Switzerland in terms of total sales was able to consolidate its position and gain market share, according to its own figures.

Currency-adjusted sales rose by 2.1 percent to 35.4 billion Swiss francs in 2025, as the company announced on Tuesday. In the retail trade excluding fuels, Coop grew by 2.3 percent to 21.1 billion.

The growth is attributable to various factors. "We were able to open new supermarkets last year, but we are seeing an overall increase in customers across all regions," a Coop spokeswoman told the news agency AWP on request. Coop is expected to open its thousandth supermarket this year.

The growth was driven by increases in several business areas. The Coop supermarkets, including the online platform Coop.ch, increased net sales by 2.6 percent to 12.4 billion Swiss francs, with online sales rising by a good ten percent. The specialist formats with brands such as Interdiscount, Jumbo and Update Fitness, on the other hand, also grew, albeit less strongly: their growth amounted to 1.7 percent. However, this also means further gains in market share.

The Wholesale and Production division grew by 2.9% to CHF 17.2 billion after adjusting for currency effects.

Coop intends to announce further details and profit figures at its annual media conference on February 17.
