According to a report in "Le Temps", Coop plans to open its 1000th store next year. Despite an already dense store network, Group CEO Philipp Wyss sees further growth potential in Switzerland "because the population is increasing", he said in the interview.

At the end of 2024, the retailer had 970 supermarkets and generated sales of 12.1 billion Swiss francs. "The food segment has been doing well for years and we are gradually gaining market share there," he said in the interview published on Saturday. The company is also performing well in the non-food sector - despite strong competition from online retailers. Coop has also benefited from the restructuring of its main competitor Migros.
In parallel with the expansion of the store network, Coop wants to strengthen online sales and link the two sales channels more closely. "This combination is crucial," said Wyss. "We have found that the best online and offline customers are the same."
With regard to possible takeovers, the Coop boss explained that the company was looking for suitable targets, "but the market is pretty dry". The priority is therefore growth in all price segments.
