Switzerland should in principle allow the export of war material to NATO states - unless there are exceptional circumstances and Switzerland's foreign or security policy interests require a rejection. This is the demand of the responsible Council of States committee.

No individual licenses are currently required for the export of war material from Switzerland to 25 countries - including the majority of NATO states as well as Argentina, Australia, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand and Austria. In future, exports to these countries will be permitted in principle.

The Security Policy Committee of the Council of States (SIK-S) is proposing this amendment to the War Material Act - by 10 votes to 3, as reported by the parliamentary services on Tuesday. It thus deviates from the Federal Council's proposal and comes up with its own proposal, which relaxes the licensing practice for foreign transactions with comparable constitutional states.

Next up is the Council of States.
