The two and a third passenger, who was in quarantine at the same location in western Canada, were taken to hospital as a precaution. The fourth passenger is in quarantine at his home. The four passengers had arrived in the city of Victoria around a week ago. At that time, none of them had shown any symptoms, it was reported. The risk to the Canadian population remains low.

There had been an outbreak of hantavirus on the cruise ship "Hondius" and three passengers died. They were found to be infected with the South American subspecies Andes virus.
