Customs officers found beef wrapped in plastic bags and aluminum foil on two men entering Germany from Switzerland. It was semi-dried and unrefrigerated.

German customs officers stopped two men traveling from Thayngen SH to Germany with six kilograms of semi-dried, unrefrigerated beef from Nigeria in their car. To prove that the meat was edible, the men wanted to eat it at customs.

However, the customs officers immediately stopped the attempt, as the main customs office in Singen announced on Wednesday. After the inspection, the two Nigerian men, aged 40 and 51, were able to continue their journey without their culinary provisions. The customs officers ordered the meat to be disposed of properly.
The import of animal products from non-EU countries such as Nigeria is subject to strict regulations in order to prevent the introduction of animal diseases, the customs office added.
