Customs officers have uncovered two cases of suspected drug smuggling in Valais. One involved around 740 grams of cocaine and the other around 61 kilograms of khat.
The drugs were discovered within two days at the beginning of March in two vehicles entering the country via car train from Italy at the car transport station near Brig, as reported by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG) on Thursday. On suspicion of narcotics smuggling, BAZG employees checked an Albanian and his vehicle on March 4. They found around 740 grams of cocaine in the car's center console.
The following day, customs officers checked a car from Italy with a Belarusian driver and an Israeli passenger. When they examined the vehicle, they found two suitcases in the trunk containing a total of around 61 kilograms of khat.
In both cases, according to the FOCA, the occupants, the vehicles and the narcotics were handed over to the Valais cantonal police for further proceedings. The investigations are being conducted under the direction of the Valais public prosecutor's office.
