Education Minister Élisabeth Borne confirmed the attack and expressed her condolences to the victims.

The attacker, who is said to be a fellow pupil, broke into two classrooms in the school center and stabbed four pupils. One pupil succumbed to her serious injuries, another victim is said to be seriously injured. The perpetrator was initially overpowered by school staff and then arrested by the police. The background to the attack is still unclear.

As reported by the BFMTV channel, the attacker is said to be a 15-year-old pupil who sent an email to all his classmates in the morning in which he painted a gloomy picture of society. The email, which the sender was able to view, was a 20-page confusing document. The 15-year-old is said to have been unknown to the police and security authorities.

Education Minister Borne and Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau were expected at the scene of the crime in the afternoon. The pupils, who were initially kept in their classrooms for security reasons, have since been allowed to leave the school. Police and emergency services were on the scene with numerous personnel. The media reported on worried parents and howling children at the school.
