Following the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, the number of registered fatalities has risen to at least 3,354 people, with more than 220 people still missing, according to state television. Most of the deaths are reported to be near the second-largest city of Mandalay, where 2,122 bodies have been recovered so far.

"The destruction is unbelievable," wrote UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, who is currently in Mandalay, on X. Experts fear that the number of victims could rise significantly.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the Sagaing region, the second-largest city of Mandalay and the capital Naypyidaw just over a week ago.
