Decathlon thus intends to significantly expand its network in Switzerland. In the coming years, the retailer will focus on a mixed concept of large sales areas in shopping centers and smaller city or mountain stores, according to the statement.

This November, three new stores will open in Lucerne, Kreuzlingen and Interlaken. In addition, the existing store in Avry-sur-Matran in the canton of Fribourg is moving to a much larger space. This brings the number of Decathlon locations in Switzerland to 48, up from 40 at the beginning of the year.

Decathlon had already opened its largest Swiss flagship store to date in Spreitenbach in the summer and also entered the market in the canton of Zug.

Decathlon operates around 1800 sales outlets worldwide. With the planned additional locations, the company aims to consolidate its position in the Swiss sporting goods market. In addition to stationary retail, the company is also focusing on digital offerings and circular economy concepts such as "Second Life" or "Trocathlon", where used sporting goods are sold again. It employs over 1000 people in Switzerland.
