According to the indictment, his life was marked by cocaine use and financial difficulties. The accused allegedly stabbed a cab driver to death in Basel in November 2022 while looking for cash.

However, when confronted with statements from his ex-wife by the court, he denied having been violent in the past. He did not comment on the homicide during questioning. The defense lawyer explained that his client had already said everything about it during the interrogation and that he was sticking to it. He therefore advised him to make use of his right to refuse to testify.

The widow of the cab driver who was killed was present as a private claimant seeking compensation. At the request of her lawyer, the court also admitted her two sons as private plaintiffs.
