As early as 2 p.m., the police asked those taking part in the unauthorized demonstration to leave, as reported by a Keystone-SDA photographer. However, the demonstrators ignored the request. According to observations at the scene, things escalated at around 5 pm. "The police beat us up. Two people were beaten up and two arrested," Gaël Ribordy from the Valais Palestine collective told Keystone-SDA.

According to the collective, around 1000 people took part, while Keystone-SDA estimated the number at a maximum of 300. Around 100 demonstrators were still on site towards the evening. The police did not confirm the numbers.

The municipal council of Sion had already banned the demonstration in September for security reasons. An appeal by the organizers was unsuccessful.
