The harassment trial against French actor Gérard Depardieu has entered its second day amid great media interest. The courtroom in the Paris Palace of Justice was packed in the morning. The 76-year-old film icon is expected to testify in court.

The proceedings revolve around allegations of sexual harassment during the shooting of the film "Les volets verts" (The Green Shutters) by director Jean Becker in 2021. A set decorator and an assistant director accuse Depardieu of touching them indecently on their breasts and buttocks, for example.

The actor denies the allegations, his lawyer Jérémie Assous calls the accusations lies. At the start of the trial, the defense lawyer had demanded an annulment due to formal errors. The court did not initially grant this. As the first day of the trial was mainly characterized by debates about technicalities, the proceedings, which were originally only scheduled until today, could be protracted.
