Furniture Despite record visitor numbers: Ikea Switzerland with slightly lower annual sales
The furniture store chain Ikea Switzerland achieved a record number of visitors in the past 2024/25 financial year. However, sales declined slightly.

This amounted to 1.21 billion Swiss francs in the 2024/25 financial year (as at the end of August) and was therefore 2.3 percent below the previous year, as the company announced on Thursday. Meanwhile, Ikea stores in Switzerland recorded 13.85 million visitors, an increase of around 2.5 percent on the previous year and 6.2 percent on the 2022/2023 financial year.
The rush of visitors also made itself felt in the restaurants: 6.5 million guests ate at Ikea last year - a good 10 percent more. This resulted in a 2.8 percent increase in sales in the food sector. Meatballs, for example, were eaten almost 1.5 million times.
Online share at almost 30 percent
At the same time, the online share increased and now accounts for 28.8% of total sales, according to the report. Many people would either start their planning online and compare options at home and then seek advice in the furniture store. Or they order via the online store and collect the goods from a point of sale or a mobile pick-up station.
The second-hand area also grew: according to Ikea, almost 38,000 products were resold in the "Second Chance" store - more than twice as many as in 2023/2024. Customers can sell used furniture that they no longer need back to Ikea here.
Ikea reportedly opened its first furniture store outside of Scandinavia in Spreitenbach in 1973. Today, Ikea Switzerland has ten furniture stores. The company employs around 3,500 people and over 130 apprentices are currently completing their training at Ikea Switzerland.
