The US entertainment giant Walt Disney has decided on a successor to CEO Bob Iger. Theme park division head Josh D'Amaro will take over the baton from Iger at the Annual General Meeting on March 18, the company announced.

The move had been expected; the day before, the Bloomberg news agency had named D'Amaro as his successor, citing people familiar with the matter.

The appointment of the manager ends a three-year search for a suitable successor to Iger. D'Amaro is in charge of theme parks, the Group's most profitable line of business since 2020, which also includes cruises. Iger will continue to work for Walt Disney in an advisory capacity until the end of the year.

Disney had brought Iger, who had been at the helm of the Group for many years, back to the top of the company in 2022. The manager took the helm at a difficult moment for Disney and the entire entertainment industry. The Group had to take account of consumers' reduced willingness to spend in times of high inflation. At the same time, revenues from cable TV with channels such as ABC in the USA are falling. In addition, the streaming business posted losses despite strong growth.
