This is the result of a DNA analysis, the public prosecutor's office in Rostock (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) announced. According to preliminary autopsy results, the boy from the town of Güstrow was the victim of a violent crime.

Investigators already assumed that it was highly probable that the eight-year-old had been missing since Friday last week. His parents were unable to take a look at the dead boy to identify him.

After hundreds of police had searched in vain for Fabian for days, a walker discovered the child's body around 15 kilometers away from the primary school pupil's home, according to police reports.

Fabian disappeared on Friday last week

The eight-year-old disappeared on October 10 and was reported missing by his mother on the evening of the same day.

It was initially assumed that the boy had wanted to go to his father, who lives separately from his mother south of Güstrow, on the day of his disappearance. Sniffer dogs were able to follow Fabian's trail to the Güstrow bus station and picked it up again near his father's home before it was lost again.

Lakes were also searched. For example, cadaver sniffer dogs searched the Inselsee lake on the outskirts of Güstrow. However, divers found nothing there.

Mourning in Güstrow

The missing person case and the discovery of the dead child caused bewilderment and grief beyond the city limits. On Tuesday evening, hundreds of Güstrow residents expressed their sympathy at a church service. As a sign of sympathy, they placed candles in front of St. Mary's Church and laid down cuddly toys.
