The flow of debris above the evacuated Grisons mountain village of Brienz has slowed further. In the village itself, landslide velocities were as low as they were 15 years ago, according to the authorities.

The speeds measured on the "village landslide" have continued to fall since mid-December, the municipality of Albula wrote in its information bulletin on Friday. They are currently between 10 and 25 centimetres per year. The fact that it was possible to drill into a water reservoir in the rock mass from below has contributed to this development.

Initially, up to 1500 liters of water per minute flowed into the drainage tunnel. The current rate is around 800 liters per minute.

According to the information provided, the slide speeds on the mountain also decreased slightly. How things will continue for the population of Brienz in the longer term is currently unclear. The conditions on the mountain are to be reassessed by the end of January.
