The Dutch driver who was involved in an accident in the Gotthard road tunnel in mid-January has died of his serious injuries. This was announced by the Ticino cantonal police on Wednesday.

The 47-year-old lost control of his vehicle in a serious traffic accident on the evening of January 19 and crashed into a tunnel wall. He had been traveling northbound. He sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident.

The exact cause of the accident was initially unclear.
