A strong earthquake has shaken the Thai capital Bangkok, among other places. The German Georesearch Institute (GFZ) in Potsdam reported an earthquake of magnitude 7.4 in the neighboring country of Myanmar, while the US earthquake observatory USGS recorded a magnitude 7.7. Initially, there were no reports of damage or casualties in the Southeast Asian countries.

In Bangkok, the earth shook for several minutes and people left their homes in panic. In the Silom district in the center of the capital, thousands of people were on the streets, many running. Helpers were also immediately deployed, instructing people to get out into the open and leave the buildings. Patients were brought out of the hospitals onto the streets.
