Openness, diversification and a reduction in bureaucracy: according to the umbrella organization Economiesuisse, these are the prerequisites for the Swiss economy to survive despite international tensions.

The umbrella organization Economiesuisse presented its annual goals to the media in Bern on Tuesday. Trade conflicts, bloc formations and protectionist tendencies are intensifying, it wrote. Switzerland is therefore dependent on trade relations that are as diversified and reliable as possible.

The new EU treaties are just as necessary as the trade agreement with the USA, association president Christoph Mäder was quoted as saying in a press release. The economy also needs free trade agreements. "The more diversified, the better."

Economiesuisse describes 2026 as a test for the federal budget. Even without the state climate fund, which will be voted on on March 8, there is a threat of more debt. This is why relief package 27 is needed, which is currently being discussed in parliament.
