The vacation airline Edelweiss plans to expand its short-haul fleet to 16 aircraft by April 2026. The company is taking over two aircraft from its sister company Swiss for this purpose.
An Airbus A320 with the registration HB-JLQ will join the fleet as early as mid-October 2025, Edelweiss announced on Tuesday. The Airbus A320neo (HB-JDB), the first aircraft of the modernized type, will follow in April 2026.
The expansion is Edelweiss' response to the growing demand for vacation flights from Zurich, it said. In addition to long-haul jets, the airline operates a fleet that primarily serves European vacation destinations.
Edelweiss is reportedly strengthening its position at the Zurich hub and at the same time entering the successor model to the Airbus A320 family. The Airbus A320neo is significantly more efficient than the previous generation. According to Edelweiss, it consumes at least 15 percent less fuel, produces fewer emissions and flies noticeably more quietly.
The renewal of the long-haul fleet started earlier. Edelweiss is purchasing a total of six Airbus A350 aircraft to replace the existing five Airbus A340 long-haul aircraft.
The first flight took place in April. The company needs more staff for this. As part of its growth, Edelweiss has advertised around 350 training courses for the current year, according to previous information.
