In the Turkish province of Izmir, emergency services are battling fires that are spreading with strong winds. Rescue teams spent the whole night trying to get the fires under control, reported the state news agency Anadolu.

21 people were treated in hospital and have since been discharged, according to Agriculture Minister Ibrahim Yumakli. The fires in Izmir are raging over a length of around 12 kilometers. The cause of the fire is still unclear. Several villages and neighborhoods were evacuated as a precaution.
One of the fires between the municipalities of Menderes and Seferihisar broke out in a wooded area, another in the municipality of Gaziemir on a garbage dump. According to TRT, several cars burned in the fires.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, four airplanes and 14 helicopters were deployed to fight the fires. The airport in Izmir had temporarily suspended flights, but operations have since resumed as normal, according to Anadolu.
