A prisoner who escaped from Basel's Bässlergut prison over a year ago has been arrested in Belgium. Another escapee is still being sought, as the Department of Justice and Security announced on Friday.

The now 23-year-old Tunisian is back in prison in Basel after being extradited to Switzerland.
According to the press release, there is still no trace of the Algerian, who was 37 at the time of the escape.
The two men escaped from prison in Basel on August 30, 2024. The Tunisian fled from early release. Among other things, he was accused of attempted intentional homicide and attempted multiple grievous bodily harm, as well as robbery, multiple thefts and violence against authorities.
The Algerian was in prison. He had been convicted of damage to property, trespassing and unlawful entry.
