Eleven arrest warrants for suspects have been executed in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain, German law enforcement authorities announced. A further person was provisionally arrested.

Several hundred police and public prosecutors were involved in the searches. A total of 32 properties were searched, 25 of them in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia alone, said a spokesman for the Bonn police.

The background to this was an investigation into suspected gang trafficking in narcotics "in not insignificant quantities". The aim of the measures was also to secure evidence and assets. Among other things, means of communication were secured, said the police spokesperson.
