As a result, around 170 additional flights had been added by the end of May in order to meet the increased demand. Around 36,000 additional seats will be offered.
On the upcoming first vacation weekend alone, Eurowings will be flying around 200,000 passengers on vacation. After a slow start to bookings, the Balearic island of Majorca is particularly popular, with around 100 additional flights from German airports alone. Other additional connections are to the Canary Islands and to Málaga, Naples, Faro and Nice.
Strikes in Spain
Meanwhile, visitors to Spain must be prepared for queues and delays at the airport during the Easter travel period due to a strike by ground staff. The employees of ground handling company Groundforce are planning to go on indefinite strike action from Friday.
They want to stop work on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in several time slots. Another major company (Menzies) is planning a full-day strike this weekend and between April 2 and 6.
In particular, baggage handling, boarding and aircraft handling will be affected at numerous Spanish airports, including Palma de Mallorca, the Canary Islands, Madrid, Barcelona and Málaga. The background to this is the unions' demands for higher wages and better working conditions.
Despite the industrial action, no or only a few stoppages are expected in Spain. Due to the maintenance of so-called "minimum services" prescribed by Spanish legislation, only a small proportion of workers are usually allowed to go on strike.
