During a check on one of the suspects, bundles of money were found that corresponded to the amount stolen from a resident of Montreux, the Vaud cantonal police announced on Tuesday. The two French women, aged 20 and 21, who were in transit, were remanded in custody.
The next day, the public prosecutor's office sentenced the defendants to 100 days' suspended imprisonment for fraud, attempted fraud, fraudulent use of a computer and driving without a license. They were released after their sentencing.
In recent weeks, there has been an increase in such fraud attempts in Switzerland. The police warn that older people are being targeted by fraudsters. They also point out that under no circumstances should bank cards, bank details or any other valuables be handed over to strangers.
